Remodelling of an existing, redundant, poorly occupied building in Annfield Plain, County Durham, provided forty apartments within a later living and care assisted facility for RL provider, Karbon. The apartments were formed by working with the existing structure to maximise the available budget. The internal spaces within the apartments provide accessible movement and layouts to meet modern living standards. The internal communal spaces were designed to reflect a ‘boutique’ hotel aesthetic to break the institutional feel of comparative care buildings.
